Wu’Stock Rocks On at Billy Bob’s in Fort Worth

On the 50th anniversary of Woodstock, Dr. Wu’ and the Texas Blues Project will celebrate at Billy Bob’s Texas “81 Club”.  Despite the news that the Woodstock event in New York is cancelled, local musicians in Fort Worth have a full evening of music scheduled Friday, August 16th.

Dr. Wu’ will perform the music of Woodstock –  26 songs from Crosby Stills Nash & Young, The Band, Jefferson Airplane, Joe Cocker, The WHO, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Santana, Mountain, Sly & the Family Stone, Jimi Hendrix and more!  Dr. Wu’ says “It’s gonna’ be Groovy, Man”.

In addition to great music, a light show with original Woodstock footage and a Special Edition poster for Reserved Seat attendees are just a few of the goodies. So, dust off your lava lamps, break out your tie dye tops and bell bottoms, and get your tickets for a memorable night!

Tickets range from $15 – $45  available online at billybobstexas.com

Billy Bob’s 81 Club is a private music and event venue across the Plaza from the World’s Largest Honkytonk – Billy Bob’s Texas.

 About Dr. Wu’…

Band mates JIM ASHWORTH and BRYAN FREEZE formed Dr. Wu’ in 2002 playing in various local bands, starting in the early 60’s. The name was taken from a Steely Dan song that encourages us to live life to the fullest and strive to be the very best that we can be. With this as their goal, they set out to record a series of original music, utilizing guest appearances by local musicians who have made Fort Worth a global mecca of top players. Dr. Wu’ has now recorded 6 CDs featuring over 30 local musicians and just released their latest, “A Night of Classic Rock and Blues…Live at the 81 Club”.

Jim and Bryan have put together a stellar list of musicians who grew up playing the songs made famous at Woodstock to commemorate the 50th Anniversary…an event that helped to define a generation of music.

The Players…                                                                                                                     CHARLIE BASSHAM, original drummer for Soul Purpose, The Atomic Clock and Lee Pickens Group is our lead vocalist. Charlie’s soulful voice has helped give Dr. Wu’ it’s unique sound and is perfectly suited for recreating the music from Woodstock.

MICHAEL ‘MOUSE’ MAYES will handle lead guitar and vocals. Mouse has been a key member of  Black Oak Arkansas, Point Blank and The  Voodoo Kings…and currently the Buddy Whittington Band.

DANNY HUBBARD will also be playing lead guitar and vocals. Danny was a key member of the infamous Sidemen and currently plays with several local groups including Faster Horses, Empty Pockets and the Rhythmators.

The backbone of Dr. Wu’ is our rhythm section featuring Wayne Six on bass and Mike Gage on drums. Wayne and Mike have been permanent players in the Buddy Whittington Band for over a decade.

Larry Telford will be playing all those important B-3 organ parts. Larry who hails from Austin is a noted session player having played with Willie Nelson, The Geezinslaw Brothers and Point Blank among others.

When it comes to world class harmonica players, Gary Grammar is at the top of the list. While there wasn’t a lot of harmonica playing at Woodstock, Gary will sit on some Canned Heat and Sly and the Family Stone numbers for us.

A Who’s Who of Texas musicians coming together for one evening…you don’t want to miss…Wu’stock 2019!
